How should i choose the better regulator IC? thanks!!!

Postby liel » Fri Jan 13, 2017 7:33 am

i have chosen the ams1117http://www.kynix.com/Detail/96476/AMS1117.html,to decrease the voltage of 18650 from 7.4v to 5v,but it turned out a too high current which is over the maximum 667ma,and leads to overheating,so i am here to ask if there would be any suitable regulator ICs for me to calm it down? encapsulated SOT223 would be the best, thanks in advance.

Hi liel,

I find your request a bit confusing. The link to the part at Kynix refers to AMS1117 as a TQFP packaged display driver, and the link to the AMS1117 pdf by Knyix is broken. However, you seem to have an SOT223 packaged AMS1117 voltage regulator which is overheating and you say the maximum current is rated as 667 ma, but the AMS1117 datasheet states an output of max 1A. And what is the 18650 you refer to? What exactly are you looking for?
