Wire Gauge for Power Adapter

Also covers batteries and chargers

I am tasked with specifying the wire gauge for twin-lead cable of a 5V 1A power adapter for use with a networking product. The length is to be 1.5M. Materials people want to go to 26AWG - seems pretty thin to me. Is there any reason not to go to 26AWG other than perception and flex tolerance/breakage? Is there a recommendation chart somewhere for future reference?
