Hello,
I want to ignite some old flash units via a circuit that is controlled by my camera. The voltage on the flash contacts is up to about 300 volts. My camera works with a flash unit where there is 5 volts on the contacts. What are the benefits of galvanic isolation? I can protect my camera with a zener. The chance that I receive a shock myself does not seem greater to me than when you have the flash unit in hand after it is charged and not ignited. Is it unwise to ignite the unit with a triac with a low voltage on the gate. I place the triac inside the flash unit, with a lead to my circuit on another place.
