Hi all, I built a transistor ignition based on what I think is the following:

The April 1980 issue (pages 10 to 15) does feature a Transistor Ignition project which uses BC547/557, BC516, BD131/242A, BU208A transistors to switch the primary winding of the car's standard ignition coil, replacing the mechanical contacts (still employed as trigger switch for the transistors). A one-page update (Transistor Ignition Update) for this project appears in September 1981 page 48.

I changed the input side to support the Hall element my replacement engine was equipped with. Now, 30 years later (and the car having become a classic) it no longer works. Guess what: schematic gone!

Anyone able to dig this up for me? Costs compensated!

Hi Leonard,
As long as your car is negative earth, if all else fails you could build a Velleman K2543 Transistor ignition kit or similar.
it uses a 2N2219A and a TIP162.

I personally used the prototype in my Opel Kadett C 1.2S across 150K miles. No problems, 20% less fuel consumption, excellent starting in winter.
